de los Santos Walk-Off Hit Lifts Curve To Win In Extras

April 10, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Altoona Curve News Release

CURVE, Pa. - Jose de los Santos hit a ball off the base of the left field wall to score Josh Harrison from second base in the bottom of the 10th inning to catapult the Curve to a, 1-0, win over Harrisburg on Saturday evening at Blair County Ballpark.

The hit by de los Santos was only the fourth hit of the ballgame for the Curve as the game was a pitcher's duel most of the way. The extra frame began when Harrison singled into left field and was moved to second by a textbook sacrifice bunt by Kris Watts, who was seeing his first game action of 2010. After Yunior Novoa (0-1) walked Jim Negrych, de los Santos delivered the walk-off heroics.

Reliever Daniel Moskos (1-0), who pitched the top of the 10th, secured the win.

Starters Tom Milone and Tim Alderson traded zeroes on the scoreboard with Alderson tossing five shutout innings and Milone six. Derek Hankins pitched two scoreless, hitless innings in relief of Alderson in his first appearance of 2010. Ronald Uviedo also pitched two frames and did not allow a hit while striking out one. All told, the bullpen did not allow a hit over its five innings of work.

Through the first three games of the year the Curve pitching staff has allowed just two runs (28 IP). The bullpen alone has yet to give up a run in its 12 innings pitched.

Jordy Mercer and Miles Durham were the other Curve players to register a hit in the win for Altoona. Mercer and Harrison have now hit in all three games thus far.

Altoona (3-0) will look for the sweep over Harrisburg (0-3) on Sunday and will send 2009 South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Year LHP Rudy Owens (NR) to the hill in his first Double-A start. He will be opposed by Nationals No. 1. prospect Stephen Strasburg, who is making his professional debut after being drafted in 2009. First pitch from Blair County Ballpark is scheduled for 2 p.m.

Radio coverage will begin with at 12:30 p.m. with a special 90-minute pregame show on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Altoona Curve Radio Network. Live television coverage of the innings that Strasburg pitches can be seen nationally on ESPNews.

Sunday is also the first Little League Clinic of the season along with a Galliker's Kids Club Day. The clinic is free to children who purchase a ticket to the Sunday afternoon contest. Kids can also run the bases after the game.

Fans are encouraged to arrive at the ballpark early as a big crowd is expected for the debut of Strasburg. Gates for the game will open at 12:30 p.m. and the Curve Box Office will open promptly at 9 a.m. Those fans that have tickets at Will Call should prepare to arrive early to pick up their tickets due to the anticipated large crowd.
