Cisco Sharp, R-Phils Sink Sea Dogs 4-1
April 10, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Reading Fightin Phils News Release
Michael Cisco took the ball on Saturday for the R-Phils looking to give the club their second-straight win, and thanks to some solid pitching and some timely hitting, Cisco and the R-Phils got what they wanted - a quick win over the Sea Dogs.
Cisco tossed six solid innings, Michael Spidale continued his hot-hitting with two key RBIs, and the Reading Phillies beat the Portland Sea Dogs by a score of 4-1 on Saturday evening in front of a crowd of 7,006 fans and the World Famous Phillie Phanatic at FirstEnergy Stadium.
On the hill for the first time this season, Cisco (1-0, 1.50) allowed just one run on five hits over six innings for a solid 2010 debut in Baseballtown. The 22-year-old, who went 2-4 with a 2.58 ERA last season in Reading, fanned two batters and walked just one. The grandson of former Philadelphia Philies pitching coach Galen Cisco, Michael finished the 2009 season on a roll, allowing just one run over his final two starts (12.2 innings pitched).
Friday's hero also played a key role on Saturday, as Spidale, 28, singled home two runs in a three-run second inning, giving the R-Phils an early 3-0 lead. Spidale, who started for the second-straight day, finished Saturday's contest 2-4 with two RBIs. The Illinois native is now hitting .571 over his two games played this season.
R-Phils third base Brandon Pickney enjoyed a solid day at the dish as he ripped three hits, upping his average to .545 on the season. Pickney, who has spent parts of the past six seasons in the Eastern League, came through with an RBI in the second inning to get the R-Phils on the board. Signed as a free agent in the offseason, Pickney, 27, hit .291 last season as a member of the Norfolk Tides, after hitting .293 over ten games with Bowie.
On Sunday, the R-Phils look to wrap-up the four-game series against Portland with a win, and will send LHP Yohan Flande to the mound. Flande, who started the exhibition game against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs on Tuesday, went 4-4 with a 4.58 ERA in Baseballtown in 2009. The Sea Dogs will counter with RHP Stephen Fife, the number seventh prospect in the Red Sox system, as ranked by Baseball America.. First pitch is set for 1:05 p.m. and the first 2,000 kids in attendance will receive a Ryan Howard R-Phils Collectors Baseball, courtesy of Van Bennett Food Co.
Also, Sunday is a Redner's R-Phils Kids Club free ticket game, thanks to Redner's Warehouse Markets / Reading Eagle / 69 News Berks Edition and a post-game run the bases, presented by 69 News Berks edition. As part of the exciting day at the ballpark, an exclusive Kids Club pre-game "Bring Your Camera" R-Phils Player Photo Session will be held from 11:00 - 11:45 am. And, for the fans who enjoy hot dogs, it's Dollar Dogs at the ballpark, courtesy of Berks Packing and Stroehmann's.
