Rock Cats 2010 Opening Homestand Continues...

April 10, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - As the Rock Cats continue play in this Opening Homestand of the 2010 Season at New Britain Stadium, they are preparing to swing open the doors of the Visitors' Clubhouse to the Portland Sea Dogs, Eastern League partners of the Boston Red Sox. And when the Portland team bus pulls into the Stadium parking lot on Monday (4/12) afternoon, it will be carrying the Boston organization's top Pitching Prospect - 20-year-old Casey Kelly - who will be preparing for his much anticipated Double-A debut that same evening. The Sarasota, FL native wowed baseball fans of all persuasions with an outstanding 2010 Spring Training, and will be taking the New Britain Stadium mound on Monday night in his first professional appearance in New England. Red Sox fans hope it is the first of many.

Monday's 6:35 PM contest will be the opener of a three-game series between the two Eastern Division rivals, with the other two contests scheduled for Tuesday Night (4/13) at 6:35 PM, followed by the Rock Cats' first morning game of the year, a 10:35 AM affair on Wednesday (4/14).

Additional information about the upcoming Rock Cats action this week includes:

MONDAY NIGHT, APRIL 12th, 6:35 PM:

With Baseball America's 2010 top-ranked Boston Pitching Prospect on the hill, the Rock Cats will counter with a young gun of their own. 20-year-old RHP Deolis Guerra, the prized prospect the Twins received from the New York Mets last year in exchange for Johan Santana, will take the ball on Monday for `Cats' rookie Manager Jeff Smith. Guerra was undefeated at New Britain Stadium in 2009 and will be looking to keep his streak going. This should be a terrific early season match-up as both teams feature top offensive players as well. Actively supporting Mr. Kelly in a Portland uniform will be the likes of slugging 1B Lars Anderson, BA's #4 Prospect in the Boston system, and yet another 20-year-old - SS Jose Iglesias - who, as BA's #9 Prospect, may well be on the fast-track to Fenway Park. The Rock Cats will not forfeit, however, as they'll trot out the likes of young Minnesota farm stars like OFs Ben Revere and Joe Benson, as well as INFs Chris Parmelee, Steve Singleton, and Juan Portes. This should be a fun week at the Stadium. And given that it's the Rock Cats, they'll be a value-added feature: Monday nights all season long will be All-You-Can-Eat Night, sponsored by Kayem. For $10 beyond the price of admission, fans may partake in a pre-game All-American Bar-B-Q in the Comcast Patio area consisting of Hot Dogs, Hamburgs, Salad, Soft Drinks, and Chips. Great spot, terrific food, good deal!

TUESDAY NIGHT, APRIL 13th, 6:35 PM:

The Rock Cats and Portland will go at it again at 6:35 PM in the middle game of this three-game series. While Tuesday night will be the Double-A debut of the Cats' highly-regarded righty, David Bromberg (BA says he is Minnesota's #9 Prospect), the Sea Dogs will counter with a promising southpaw, Felix Doubront. And Tuesday Nights - all season long - will be Kids Eat Free Night at the Stadium, whereby every child 12-and-under will receive a coupon for a free Hot Dog and Soft Drink as he or she passes through the gates. This weekly offering is made possible thanks to the sponsorship of Bimbo Bread, makers of Arnold, Boboli, and Thomas' bakery products, among others.

WEDNESDAY MORNING, APRIL 14th, 10:35 AM

The Rock Cats will play their first morning game of year on Wednesday - first pitch will be at 10:35 AM - and once again Portland will be the opponent. The sun is supposed to shine brightly on Wednesday morning and thus it should be a great time to grab a cup of coffee and join us for a unique early morning contest. We should be mid-way through by about 12 Noon - if you can't get free early, join us for lunch. The possibilities for enjoyment are seemingly endless with these early starts. And to top things off - it's Wednesday - making it Family 4-Pack Day - meaning that families and groups of friends can get 4 Box Seats, 4 Hot Dogs, 4 Popcorns and 4 Soft Drinks for the economical price of $30! This great deal, offered every Wednesday all season long, is sponsored by SBLI.

Fans interested in securing tickets to any of these early season games next week may do so by dropping by the New Britain Stadium Box Office any time after 9:30 AM next week, or by calling the Rock Cats Ticket Office at (860) 224-8383.
