
SeaWolves Drop Series Opener to Aeros 7-4

The SeaWolves opened a four-game series against Western Division rival Akron on Thursday night at Canal Park and came out on the short end of a 7-4 game.
Erie struck first in the top of the first against Akron starter Austin Adams. Jamie Johnson led off and tripled to the gap in left-center. Johnson scored on a Francisco Martinez infield single for a 1-0 SeaWolves lead.
Akron responded in the bottom of the first against Erie starter Casey Crosby. Jordan Henry led off, walked and stole second. Juan Diaz doubled home Henry making it a 1-1 game.
Erie regained the lead in the top of the second. Audy Ciriaco led off and doubled and scored on a one-out Bryan Holaday single for a 2-1 lead.
The Aeros tied the game once again in the bottom of the second. Donnie Webb reached on a one-out error and stole second. With Henry hitting and two outs, Webb took off for third and an errant throw to left from Holaday allowed the runner to score making it 2-2.
In the third, the Aeros took the lead on a two-out, solo home run off the bat of Matt McBride for a 3-2 lead.
The Aeros added to the lead in the fourth. Kyle Bellows led off and reached on a walk. John Drennen laid down a sacrifice bunt, moving Bellows into scoring position. Bellows scored on a two-out Karexon Sanchez single for a 4-2 lead.
The 'Wolves cut into the lead in the fifth. With one out, Johnson and Brandon Douglas each singled. Francisco Martinez reached on a fielder's choice and a Sanchez throwing error allowed Johnson to score making it a 4-3 game.
Akron took a two-run lead once again in the fifth against reliever Rob Waite. With one out, McBride connected on his second home run of the game making it 5-3.
Erie cut into the lead again, making it a one-run game in the top of the sixth when Deik Scram led off with a towering solo home run, his sixth, to straight away center making it 5-4.
Akron added insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth against Erie reliever Ramon Garcia. With one out, Drennen walked and Webb laid down a bunt single. With runners on the corners and two outs, Henry doubled home a pair making it 7-4 Akron.
The SeaWolves got two aboard in the ninth but could not plate any further runs, falling by three.
Crosby (6-5) took the loss for the SeaWolves allowing four runs, three earned, with five walks and four strikeouts. Crosby is now 0-3 against the Aeros and has dropped two straight.
The SeaWolves look to snap a two-game losing streak on Friday night at Canal Park.7:05 First Pitch. Lefty Jay Voss (5-5, 4.21 ERA) takes the mound for the SeaWolves against LHP Matt Packer (4-9, 4.88 ERA).
