SeaWolves Drop Finale at New Hampshire

The SeaWolves dropped the series finale to the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, 8-3 on Sunday afternoon at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

The Fisher Cats jumped ahead in the second against Erie starter Michael Fulmer when Ryan Schimpf connected on a solo home run to right for a 1-0 lead.

The Cats added to the lead in the third. Jorge Flores and Roeman Fields each singled. Dwight Smith singled home Flores making it 2-0. Kevin Nolan followed and hit into a fielder's choice, plating Fields for a 3-0 lead.

Erie got on the board in the top of the fourth against New Hampshire starter Austin Bibens-Dirkx. Jacoby Jones and Dean Green each singled and James Robbins walked, loading the bases. Miguel Gonzalez singled home Jones making it a 3-1 game. Bibens-Dirkx would strike out the next two hitters getting out of the jam.

New Hampshire took a commanding lead in the sixth against reliever Slade Smith. Schimpf led off with a single and K.C. Hobson followed with a two-run home run for a 5-1 advantage. Derrick Chung walked and Emilio Guerrero doubled putting runners on second and third. With one out, Flores singled home a pair making it 7-1. The Cats added one more on a Nolan sacrifice fly for an 8-1 lead.

Erie struck for a pair in the top of the eighth against reliever John Anderson. Wynton Bernard led off with a single and Jason Krizan followed with a two-run home run, his fifth, cutting the Cats lead to 8-3. The 'Wolves would get no closer.

Fulmer (8-3) took the loss allowing three runs on six hits with a walk and four strikeouts in four innings of work.
