New Britain Rock Cats News Release

Tyler Pill turned out to be nothing more than a headache for New Britain, pitching and hitting the Binghamton Mets to a 3-0 win over the Rock Cats Sunday afternoon, before a crowd of 3,862 at New Britain Stadium. The Mets managed to salvage the finale of a three-game set in the last-ever meeting between Binghamton and New Britain.

The 25-year-old right-hander pitched six scoreless innings and allowed the Rock Cats just four hits to win his third straight start at Double-A, since being reassigned from the New York Mets Triple-A affiliate at Las Vegas. The Mets 4th round draft choice in 2011 also wreaked havoc at the plate, going 3-for-4 with an RBI. Former UConn player LJ Mazzilli came up big for the Mets as well, producing a 4-for-5 day at the plate with two RBI to pace a 14-hit Binghamton attack.

The Rock Cats managed just six hits in the game, two by outfielder Mike Tauchman, who raised his batting average to .300. The Colorado Rockies 10th round draft pick in 2013 is among the top-10 hitters in the Eastern League.

Despite the loss, the Rock Cats won the series and garnered their second straight winning home stand.

"Yea, that's what it's about," said Rock Cats manager Darin Everson. "We've gotta keep winning series. If we do that we're going to be pretty good at the end of the season."

New Britain begins a two-city, six-game road trip to Erie and Reading, starting Tuesday night at Erie against the Detroit Tigers affiliate. The Rock Cats return to the Hardware City on Monday night, August 24 to start their last-ever home stand at New Britain Stadium. The Bowie Baysox, the Baltimore Orioles affiliate, will furnish the opposition. Game time is 7:05.
