Akron RubberDucks News Release

Akron's Adam Plutko was masterful over seven innings, and Bradley Zimmer laced a timely, tie-breaking, RBI single, as the RubberDucks claimed a 4-1 victory over the Portland Sea Dogs Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field

Turning Point

Zimmer, who reached base four times Sunday with two hits and two walks, drilled a two-out, run-scoring single to left field off Portland lefty Williams Jerez (2-3) in the top of the sixth to give Akron a 2-1 lead. Zimmer had seven RBI on the road trip, and now has 23 on the season for the RubberDucks.

Mound Presence

Plutko (8-4) won his fourth straight decision, as he tossed seven impressive innings. He allowed only four hits and one run, while walking two and fanning six. With two outs in the fifth, he gave up a two-out double to Manuel Margot and an RBI single by Tzu-Wei Lin, which tied the game 1-1. He proceeded to retire the next seven batters before leaving after seven innings. He threw 96 pitches, 66 of which were strikes. Right-hander Casey Weathers pitched a scoreless eighth to set up Jeff Johnson, who worked around a bases-loaded jam in the ninth to post his 22nd save.

Duck Tales

The RubberDucks (65-56) added a pair of insurance runs in the top of the ninth on RBI singles by Jordan Smith and Eric Stamets, to take a 4-1 lead. Weathers has not allowed a run this month, covering six relief outings and six innings pitched.
