Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

NEW BRITAIN, CT - LJ Mazzilli collected four hits and two RBI to lead the B-Mets past the New Britain Rock Cats, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon in Binghamton's final game at New Britain Stadium. Tyler Pill tossed six blank innings and Major League rehabber Erik Goeddel worked a scoreless frame in the B-Mets' 11th shutout win. Binghamton recorded 14 hits to avoid the sweep and close a 3-3 road trip.

Binghamton snapped out of a series-long offensive funk and broke a scoreless game in the sixth inning. Mazzilli laced a one-out double into the right-field gap, plating Xorge Carrillo from first base with the game's first run. Pill doubled Binghamton's lead, and collected his third hit of the afternoon, by lining an RBI single into left.

The hits from Mazzilli and Pill washed away five innings of frustration for a B-Mets team that had mustered just two runs in the first two games of the series. Binghamton left the bases loaded without scoring in the third and failed to score after filling the bases with none out in the fifth.

Making his third start with Binghamton, Pill wiggled out of a jam in the first. The righty stepped around David Dahl's leadoff double to post a scoreless inning. Pill prevented the Rock Cats from getting past first over his next three innings, before allowing two to reach in the fifth. He kept the game scoreless with consecutive outs and returned with a perfect sixth, preserving Binghamton's two-run lead.

Mazzilli struck again to add to Binghamton's lead in the seventh. With two outs and runners at the corners, the Connecticut native laced a single into center, pushing the B-Mets to a three-run advantage.

Goeddel struck out two and worked around a leadoff double to post a scoreless seventh in his first appearance with Binghamton on Major League rehab. Jon Velasquez added a perfect eighth and Paul Sewald fanned two in the ninth to earn his 20th save.

Pill (3-0) allowed four hits and struck out two over six scoreless innings to earn his third win in as many starts. Shane Broyles (0-6) allowed two runs on three hits in 1-2/3 innings of relief in the loss.

The B-Mets (65-54) enjoy their final off day of the regular season on Monday before starting a three-game series at NYSEG Stadium against the Richmond Flying Squirrels on Tuesday night at 6:35 PM. RHP Seth Lugo takes the hill against LHP Matt Gage. The Horizons Federal Credit Union Pregame Show can be heard starting at 6:20 PM on Newsradio 1290 WNBF and the Binghamton Mets channel on TuneIn.

POSTGAME NOTES: Binghamton went 84-77 over 20 seasons at New Britain Stadium...the B-Mets closed their season series with an 11-4 record against the Rock Cats in 2015...the Rock Cats went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position
