
Plutko Shines as Akron Takes Rubber Match 4-1

Portland, Maine - Adam Plutko allowed one earned run on just four hits in seven innings, and the Akron RubberDucks took the rubber match of their series with the Sea Dogs 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at Hadlock Field.
Bryson Myles scored in the top of the first inning for Akron in all three games of the series. He led off today's game with a bunt single before eventually coming around to score on an RBI groundout by Yandy Diaz to make it 1-0 Akron after one.
Portland came back to tie the game in the fifth off of Plutko. With the bases empty and two outs, Manuel Margot doubled off the wall in left-center field and Tzu-Wei Lin followed with an RBI single to left to tie the game 1-1.
Akron quickly responded in the top of the sixth inning. With Carlos Moncrief on third base with two outs, Bradley Zimmer came through with an RBI single off of Williams Jerez to provide the game-winning RBI and give the RubberDucks a 2-1 lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Akron added two runs in the top of the ninth inning on RBI singles by Jordan Smith and Eric Stamets off of Simon Mercedes.
Plutko (8-4) earned the win, allowing an earned run on four hits in seven innings with one walk and seven strikeouts. Casey Weathers pitched a perfect eighth in relief, and Jeff Johnson closed out the game for his 22nd save.
Heri Quevedo made a spot start for Portland and allowed one earned run on two hits in four innings, walking one and striking out three. Williams Jerez (1-2) got the loss, allowing an earned run on one hit in two innings of relief.
The Sea Dogs have tomorrow off as they travel to Altoona to begin a three game series with the Curve on Tuesday night, first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM . Aaron Wilkerson (0-1, 7.59) is scheduled to start for Portland while Altoona's starter is TBA. Pregame coverage begins on the WPEI U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio network at 6:40 PM .
