Season High Six Errors Leads to Lopsided Loss

VISALIA, CA - The High Desert Mavericks (24-12) held the Visalia Rawhide (23-12) to just two hits and one run in a 9-1 victory at Rawhide Ballpark on Saturday night.

The Mavericks scored two runs in each of the fourth, fifth, sixth and ninth innings en rout to the lopsided victory.

The Rawhide set a season high, committing six errors in the loss leading to four unearned runs and also turned in their lowest hit total of 2016 with two.

The lone run for Visalia against RHP Luis Ortiz (3-2, 2.60) came in the bottom of the third when CF Colin Bray hit a home run over the right-centerfield wall. It was Bray's first home run of the season and at the time made it a 2-1 ballgame with High Desert out in front.

Ortiz pitched six innings and allowed one hit and one run while striking out five in the win. He threw 56 pitches in his six innings of work.

After an unearned run scored in the first against LHP Josh Taylor (0-4, 6.32), 3B Josh Morgan took him deep in the fourth. A two-run home run that gave High Desert a lead they would not relinquish at 3-1.

Two more runs crossed the plate in the fifth against Taylor when 2B Travis Demeritte hit an RBI double, followed by C Jose Trevino's RBI double that made it 5-1 Mavs.

High Desert added more insurance with two more runs in the sixth against RHP Blake Perry on two singles and two errors to run their lead to 7-1. Finally, in the ninth against RHP Miller Diaz the Mavericks scored twice more on a DH Tripp Martin two-run double for the 9-1 final.

RHP Adam Quintana pitched the final three scoreless frames to close it out.

Visalia mustered three base runners the entire ballgame.

Game three of the series is tomorrow afternoon, with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch. RHP Ethan Elias (2-1, 5.01) will make the start for the Rawhide against LHP Yohander Mendez (3-1, 2.89) for the Mavericks.
