Jean Hustles Nuts to 14-Inning Win

Modesto, CA. - Luis Jean gave the Modesto Nuts a marathon 4-3 victory over the San Jose Giants in 14 innings at John Thurman Field on Sunday afternoon.

With two outs in the 14th inning and a man at third, Luis Jean rolled a weak groundball to short. Jean beat the throw to first to bring the winning run in from third to give the Nuts (15-21) the win and a chance for a series victory in the finale on Monday night.

Logan Sawyer (W, 1-1) tossed a scoreless 14th out of the Nuts' 'pen to give the Nuts a chance at the win.

Jeff Soptic (L, 0-2) had thrown well out of the Giants' (20-14) bullpen. He had chucked two scoreless innings before Emerson Jimenez was able reach with a one-out single ahead of Jean's heroics.

Jean had tied the game in the third inning with a two-run triple. Jean scored to give the Nuts the lead on Dom Nunez's sac fly.

The Giants had tied the game in the eighth thanks to Chris Shaw. He whacked a game-tying double off of Troy Neiman after Ryan Castellani turned in an excellent start. The Nuts' righty worked seven innings and allowed just two runs on nine hits.
