Marlette Homers, But Blaze Fall 8-3
May 15, 2016 - California League (CalL1)
Bakersfield Blaze News Release
With fans focused on a helicopter pouring 400 pounds of candy onto the Sam Lynn Ballpark field, the Bakersfield Blaze and Stockton Ports played 'opening act' with the Blaze falling 8-3 to a hot-hitting opponent.
The Ports bats, perhaps frustrated by a pair of losses, woke up early for this daytime affair. Tyler Marincov greeted Blaze starter Anthony Misiewicz (L, 1-4) rudely with a two-run homer in the 1st, and life did not get much better from there.
The Blaze got one back in the home half off Daniel Gossett (W, 2-1), but Stockton added one more in the 4th, two more in the 6th, and three in the 7th off reliever Kody Kerski, building, at that point, a lead of 8-2.
The Blaze got their remaining runs on Tyler Marlette's second homer of the year, that coming in the 6th, and Jay Baum's triple in the 7th was scored by Chantz Mack. Mack finished with two RBI for a season total of 25, tops on the club.
The Blaze offense continued to put together good at-bats, but couldn't string the hits together on Sunday. On the pitching side, Ronald Dominguez provided a bright spot, working the 8th and 9th innings and retiring all six batters he faced, including a pair of strikeouts.
For the Ports, Tyler Marincov's homer was his team-leading 9th.
The series and the season-long ten-game homestand both wrap up on Monday with a very special EXTENDED Dollar Monday. Thanks to a pre-game Roller Derby Softball Battle, gates open an hour earlier than usual, meaning a full additional hour of dollar prices on beer, soda and hot dogs.
Fans are welcome in the park at 5:15pm, with first pitch set for 7:15pm, and dollar deals ending at the conclusion of the 4th inning. Tyler Herb takes the ball for the Blaze.
The game is also available via internet radio broadcast at TuneIn Radio and BakersfieldBlaze.com. Dan Besbris has the call.
