Quakes Quiet Crowd in 5-2 Win

San Bernardino, CA- The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes used a five-run fifth frame to down the 66ers 5-2 in front of a raucous crowd of 6,287 at San Manuel Stadium on Friday. The loss dropped Inland Empire to 0-7 against the Quakes and the 66ers have now lost 14 consecutive games to Rancho Cucamonga dating back to last July.

The contest was scoreless until the fifth when the Quakes got to Inland Empire (10-25) reliever Josh Roenicke (0-1) for four runs and another against fellow reliever Jose Molina. The big blast in the inning was Kyle Garlick's bases-clearing double. Garlick finished with the only multi-hit game for either club as he also had a single. Andrew Sopko tossed six strong innings for the Quakes allowing one run on three hits with two walks and seven K's and improved to 4-0 on the year. He is now 2-0 versus Inland Empire.

Tim Arakawa got the Sixers on the board with an RBI single in the fifth to extend his hit streak to a Cal League best 19 games. His single scored Ayendy Perez who had doubled earlier in the frame, IE's lone extra base hit. On the mound spot-starter Jason Hoppe went three innings of no-hit shutout ball for the Sixers allowing just a walk and fanning four. Nate Fury gave the Sixers a perfect seventh inning and Eduardo Paredes tossed two perfect frames including striking out the side in the top of the ninth. Scott Griggs picked up his fifth save of the season for the Quakes (24-11) with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.
