Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - Bobby Boyd hit a solo homer to put the JetHawks in front early, but a three-run shot by Trae Santos was the difference, as the Lake Elsinore Storm took their first game of the series on Sunday afternoon at The Hangar, 6-3.
Boyd's long ball, which came leading off the home third, was his second of the season and it gave the JetHawks a 2-1 lead. With one out and two on in the top of the fifth, Lancaster starter Deen Deetz was pulled for Jacob Dorris. On the first pitch from the right-hander, Santos hit a line drive three-run homer to right that barely cleared the wall. It was the first long ball of the season for Santos and the final scoring in the game.
Each team scored a run in the first inning and stranded a pair. In the bottom half, Boyd and Garrett Stubbs drew walks to open the frame against Lake Elsinore starter Dinelson Lamet. After Boyd was picked off second, Stubbs stole second and then scored on an RBI single by Ramon Laureano. Stubbs would later extend his hitting streak to 13 games, but the catcher exited with an apparent injury in the sixth inning after a slight collision at the plate with Luis Urias, who was trying to steal home.
With the JetHawks leading 2-1, Josh VanMeter delivered a two-out two-run single to put Lake Elsinore back in front in the fourth. The JetHawks tied the game again in the bottom of the frame on Luis Reynoso's RBI single.
Deetz (2-1) took the loss for Lancaster, allowing seven hits and five runs in 4.1 innings. After allowing the three-run homer, Dorris settled down and struck out six over 2.2 innings in relief. Yeyfry Del Rosario pitched two shutout innings out of the bullpen for the JetHawks.
Lamet (6-1) picked up the win, despite walking four and throwing three wild pitches. He surrendered three runs on seven hits in five innings. Brad Wieck, Jose Torres, and Colby Blueberg each tossed a shutout inning out of the Lake Elsinore bullpen to close out the game for the Storm. Blueberg earned his sixth save in as many opportunities.
The JetHawks and Storm conclude their four-game series tomorrow night at The Hangar. Rogelio Armenteros (0-1) will start for Lancaster against Thomas Dorminy (1-4). First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
The JetHawks are celebrating their 20th anniversary season in Lancaster. Great ticket packages and group events are on sale now at jethawks.com or by calling (661) 726-5400.
