
Sea Dogs Win Series Finale

(Erie, PA) - The Portland Sea Dogs (30-29) salvaged the series finale from the Erie SeaWolves (33-26) with a 5-3 victory on Thursday night at Jerry Uht Park. Portland travels to Akron on Friday night to begin a 3-game weekend series with the Aeros. Portland's pitchers walked eight but fanned 12 in their first win against the Southern Division this season.
RHP Jarod Plummer (5-2) earned the win for the âDogs despite six walks of over six innings. The righty yielded just two hits, three runs and fanned seven. Erie starter RHP Luis Marte (4-6) surrendered nine hits, two walks and four runs over 6 IP. The righty fanned four and suffered his first loss since May 25.
CF Josh Reddick (2-for-5, RBI) provided the game-winning RBI, snapping a 3-3 tie with a two-out, run-scoring single in the fourth inning, scoring RF Reid Engel (2-out double). In the eighth, Engel's sacrifice fly provided Portland their final run of the night.
RHP Chad Rhoades fanned three over 1.1 innings to pick up a hold and RHP T.J. Large (1.1 IP, H, BB, 2 SO) recorded the final four outs to convert his sixth save in as many opportunities. Large entered the game in the eighth inning and fanned C Alex Avila with runners at second and third base. In the ninth, the righty stranded two runners, getting 3B Mike Hollimon to bounce out to second base.
The Sea Dogs scored three times in the first inning off Marte. Reddick led off the game with single, C Mark Wagner (3-for-4, BB) followed with a bloop single and both scored on a 3-run homer by 3B Jorge Jimenez (3-for-4, HR, 3 RBI, BB). Erie responded in their half of the first on RF Brennan Boesch's 2-run homer to left-center field.
Erie tied the game at three in the second inning off Plummer. C Alex Avila led off with a walk and advanced to third base on a single by SS Cale Iorg. Avila scored on a run-scoring fielder's choice by LF Deik Scram.
Portland travels to Akron on Friday night to start a 3-game series against the Aeros at Canal Park beginning at 7:05 PM. LHP Felix Doubront (3-2, 3.51) will face RHP Jake Westbrook, who makes a rehab start for Akron. Notes...Jimenez has four homers this season, three have been 3-run shots...Erie hit 5 homers in the series and leads the league with 70 - Boesch hit two against Portland...Reddick picked up his 7th multi-hit game of the season...Kalish extended his hitting streak to a season-high five straight games...Plummer's six walks was a high for a Portland starter this season.
