Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Binghamton suffered their largest defeat of the season and gave up a season-high 16 runs in a 16-2 loss to Harrisburg at NYSEG Stadium Thursday in a game that was called in the eighth due to wet grounds. Jose Coronado, Emmanuel Garcia, D.J. Wabick and Ruben Tejada all registered two-hits for the B-Mets.

The Senators jumped out to an early 2-0 lead off B-Mets starter Jenrry Mejia by scoring two-unearned runs in the second. Lucas Duda and Tejada made errors in the inning.

Coronado cut the lead to 2-1 in the third on a single to centerfield that scored Garcia from second. Garcia doubled to right to put himself in scoring position.

In the fifth Nick Abel came on to relieve Mejia and gave up two runs on three hits and two walks in the inning. Ofilio Castro, who went 4-5 with four RBI's, had a two-run single in the frame to make it 6-1.

Harrisburg (20-36) blew the game wide open in the sixth off Abel by stringing together four hits. Matt Whitney hit an RBI double and Marvin Lowrance jacked his ninth home run of the season, a three-run shot, to make it 10-1.

Abel gave up a Binghamton season-high in hits allowed for a reliever with 11 and earned runs with 10 in his 2.1 innings of work. Six runs came across in the seventh to tie a season-high for runs allowed in an inning. Javy Herrera's two-run single off Stephen Clyne made the score 16-1.

Binghamton (24-34) scored a run in the seventh to yield the final score of 16-2. Matt Watson, who recently arrived from Buffalo, singled to lead off the inning and scored on Nick Evans' double.

Erik Arnesen went six innings, giving up one run on eight hits for his third win of the year. Jenrry Mejia took his first loss of the season in his second start, going four innings, giving up four hits and four runs. Only two of the runs were earned, however.

Binghamton will begin a seven-game road trip in Trenton tomorrow. LHP Mike Antonini (4-1, 5.47 ERA) will make the start for the B-Mets and the Thunder will counter with RHP Ivan Nova (4-3, 3.12 ERA). The first pitch is slated for 7:05 and the radio broadcast on Newsradio 1290 WNBF begins at 6:50 with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show.
