Altoona Curve News Release
NEW BRITAIN, CT - The Altoona Curve were unable to salvage the final game of a three-game series in New Britain and fell to the Rock Cats 7-3 on Thursday evening at New Britain Stadium. The loss sends the Curve to their fourth straight loss and puts them a franchise worst 22 games under .500.
After Altoona grabbed an early 2-0 edge thanks to RBI singles by Jim Negrych and Steve Lerud, the Rock Cats (32-27) plated five unearned runs off Altoona starter Kyle Bloom in the second inning to take a 5-2 lead. Bloom was lifted with two outs in the frame and just lasted 1.2 total innings permitting three hits, walking a batter and hitting a man.
Righty Sean Smith would come on and give Altoona solid relief, allowing just one earned run over 4.1 innings. Smith has only allowed one run over his last 11.1 innings over his last two outings.
Altoona would chip away at the deficit when Brian Friday knocked home Negrych in the top of the fifth inning to pull within two runs, 5-3, but New Britain would answer with two more runs in the game. One run came across in the bottom of the sixth inning and another run was scored in the eighth to extend the âCats lead to 7-3.
