Portland Sea Dogs News Release

(Trenton, NJ) - Jamal Strong knocked in the game-winning run with an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning, rallying the Trenton Thunder to a 4-3, 10-inning win over the Sea Dogs in front 9,134 - the largest crowd in the history of Waterfront Park.

Scott Patterson (2-0) pitched a perfect inning to earn the win for Trenton. Chris Smith (0-2) did not retire a batter in the last of the 10th to suffer his second loss of the season.

Roger Clemens was the main attraction on Wednesday night in Trenton as he made his second minor league start before he possibly joins the Yankees on Monday in Toronto. The Sea Dogs knocked Clemens out of the game in the sixth inning after a bases loaded walk from Iggy Suarez to tie the game at two. Jeff Corsaletti followed with a bases loaded walk against Michael Gardner scoring Bryan Pritz - a run charged to Clemens. The 6-time-Cy Young award winner pitched 5 and 1/3 innings on six hits, three runs, four walks and five strikeouts.

Clemens was the losing pitcher until Noah Hall homered off Mike James in the bottom of the ninth inning to tie the game at three.

Texas native Clay Buchholz put together a strong performance for the Sea Dogs. After allowing four straight hits and two runs in the bottom of the first inning, Buchholz retired 15 of 18 batters, holding the Thunder to just three hits in that span. Buchholz took a no-decision, working six innings on seven hits, two runs, no walks and seven strikeouts.

Iggy Suarez had the first hit off Clemens, a two-out triple down the left field line in the second inning. Portland scored their first run off the Rocket in the third inning. Jed Lowrie, who had two doubles and a walk off Clemens, began the inning with a two-base hit to right-center field. Lowrie scored on Jay Johnson's run-scoring ground out to the shortstop.

Scott Youngbauer (double), Andrew Pinckney (single), and Pritz (single) also had hits against Clemens.

Barry Hertzler worked two scoreless innings of relief to earn his second straight hold. Michael Gardner pitched 3 and 2/3 scoreless innings for the Thunder in relief of Clemens.

In the bottom of the tenth inning, Smith allowed singles to Justin Christian and Ramiro Pena before Strong's game-winning hit, which game on an 0-2 pitch.

The Sea Dogs (18-21) are now 3-6 on their 10-game trip and have lost three straight in the series to Trenton (28-14). The series finale starts at 11:05 AM - Michael Bowden gets the start for Portland, Jason Jones pitches for Trenton.

Notes...Youngbauer ended an 0-for-15 slump with double off Clemens...Portland is 1-6 on the road in games decided in the final at-bat.
