Clemens Brings Largest Ever Crowd To Waterfront Park

(Trenton, NJ)- The largest crowd in the 14-year history of Waterfront Park (9,134) came to see Roger Clemens. They got 5 1/3 innings from the returning Yankees righthander, as well as a Trenton 4-3 win in 10 innings.

Clemens, making his 2nd start of his Minor League tour, tossed 102 pitches on the night, 64 for strikes. He allowed three runs on six hits with four walks and five strikeouts. Clemens walked the bases loaded in the 1st Inning, but got out of the jam. Portland got him for a run in the 3rd Inning on a triple and a groundout. The Sea Dogs then ended his night in the 6th Inning after a bases loaded walk to 2B Iggy Suarez.

The paid crowd surpassed the previous hig mark of 8,729 (May 10, 2003) during Derek Jeter's five-game rehab stint with the Thunder. Trenton (28-14) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the 1st Inning as they collected four straight hits of Sea Dogs starter Clay Buchholz. The Thunder scored on a two-run single by 1B Shawn Garrett. Trenton then tied the game at 3-3 with a 9th Inning solo homer by RF Noah Hall and won it in the 10th Inning on three stright hits to start the inning, the winner being a Jamal Strong RBI single.

Thunder reliever Scott Patterson (2-0) got the win working the top of the tenth. Portland righty Chris Smith (0-2) took the loss without retiring a batter in the 10th Inning.

Trenton and Portland wrap up their series on Thursday morning at 11:05 AM. Michael Bowden (1-0, 1.80) starts for Portland against Trenton's Jason Jones (3-2, 3.40).
