New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Manchester, NH- Reading catcher Jason Hill hit a 3-1 pitch into the left field Poultry Products Dinner in the Den for a home run which proved the difference in the Phillies 2-1, 10-inning win over the Fisher Cats Wednesday night at Merchantsauto.com Stadium. New Hampshire (22-19) starter Kurt Isenberg allowed only an unearned run, and reliever Tracy Thorpe did not allow a run or a hit in 2.1 innings in relief.
Hill's second homer of the season came off reliever Lee Gronkiewicz (2-2). Chris Key (3-0) worked two shutout innings in relief to pick up the win for Reading (23-21).
The Phillies broke a scoreless tie in the fifth off Isenberg. Peeter Ramos singled and Brian Burgamy walked to start the inning. On Michael Garciaparra's bunt attempt, Isenberg threw to third to get the lead runner, but Rob Cosby's throw across trying to complete the double play was wide and he was charged with an error as the runners moved up to second and third. Javon Moran hit a sacrifice fly to center to put Reading up 1-0.
The Fisher Cats tied the game in the bottom of the fifth on a lead off double by David Smith. He went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Juan Peralta off starter Bubba Nelson.
Reading had a great chance to score in the 8th after loading the bases on walks. Tracy Thorpe struck out Hill and Greg Jacobs before scooping up pinch hitter Michael Costanzo's grounder and outracing him to the bag, the RELCO Enlightening Play of the Game which kept the score tied at 1-1.
The Fisher Cats and the Phillies wrap up their four-game series Thursday morning at 11:05am. Right-hander Victor Zambrano, a Blue Jay pitcher currently on the disabled list, makes a rehabilitation start for the Fisher Cats against Reading RHP Landon Jacobson (5-2, 4.53). Radio coverage on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network (AM-610, Manchester; AM-930, Rochester; AM-1540, Exeter) begins at 10:45am with Mike Murphy and Bob Lipman.
