R-Phils to host Military Recognition Night, collect goods for troops

Reading, PA -- The Reading Phillies will honor our nation's heroes, past and present, at the game on Tuesday, May 29 vs. the Bowie Baysox at FirstEnergy Stadium. Game time is 6:35 PM and gates open at 5:30 PM. All veterans and active military personnel are invited to attend the game for free and have the chance to be honored on the field as part of a special pre-game ceremony thanks to 830 AM WEEU.

The ceremony will take place at 5:45 PM and will honor "Today's Military & Yesterday's Heroes in Uniform". All active military and veterans will receive one free ticket. Tickets should be obtained in advance if possible by calling the Reading Phillies at 610-375-8469. Additional tickets can be purchased also by contacting the Reading Phillies.

During the ceremony, each military member will take the stage and announce their name, branch, rank and years of service. Each participant will then receive a voucher good for a free hot dog and soda. Those who would like to participate are not required to register in advance, but should arrive at 5:30 PM.

In addition, fans are asked to bring items to the ballpark to donate to Operation Enduring Freedom. The organization ships items of need directly to our troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, Korea, Kuwait, or other places around the world. Items being collected include: personal care products, non-perishable food, reading material, audio & video tapes/discs and even unused greeting cards to allow recipients to keep in touch with family & friends.
