Game #87 - Thursday, July 12, 2007 - Hadlock Field - Portland, ME - 7:00 p.m.

LET'S GET IT STARTED AGAIN: After two days off for the Eastern League All-Star Game, the Sea Dogs open up a four-game weekend series against the New Britain Rock Cats at Hadlock Field...The 'Dogs hold a one game lead over the ‘Cats for third place in the Eastern League's Northern Division but New Britain has taken six of nine from Portland this season.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Portland's bid for the third no-hitter in franchise history fell one strike short when Lyle Overbay singled on a 2-2 pitch from Hunter Jones in the bottom of the ninth inning at Merchantsauto.com Stadium on Monday afternoon. The Sea Dogs took the series with a 5-0 victory, receiving six and 2/3 hitless innings from Justin Masterson in his Double-A debut. Masterson fanned nine, walked two and allowed only two runners to reach scoring position. New Hampshire hit only three balls out of the infield against Masterson, who retired 18 of 21 on just 85 pitches. Bubba Bell, Jeff Natale, Andrew Pinckney and Bryan Pritz all had 2 hits and RBI for Portland. Jay Johnson went 3-for-5 with a double and 2 run scored. Jones fanned Rob Cosby to end the game and preserve the one-hitter.

WELL DESERVED: Right-hander Clay Buchholz was promoted to Pawtucket during the All- Star break and will get the start for the PawSox on Monday against the Ottawa Lynx at McCoy Stadium...Buchholz leaves the Eastern League as the leader in ERA (1.69) and strikeouts (115)...He will be replaced in the rotation by tonight's starter Chris Smith.

A FOGGY SITUATION: Last night's Eastern League All-Star Game was cancelled in the third inning due to fog at Dodd Stadium...The score was tied at two and Jeff Corsaletti was the lone Sea Dog that participated in the game, going 0-for-1 (SO)...Brandon Moss homered in the Triple-A All-Star Game, leading the International League to a 7-5 victory over the PCL stars.

WE WISH HIM LUCK: First baseman Eric Crozier was released following Monday's game in New Hampshire against the Fisher Cats...Crozier was leading the team with nine home runs and tied with Jed Lowrie in RBI's with 44...INF Chad Spann, who spent all of last season with the Sea Dogs, was assigned to Portland earlier today from Triple-A Pawtucket...Spann was hitting .222, 4 HR, 17 RBI in 68 games with the PawSox.
