New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
Trenton, NH - The Northern Division leading Trenton Thunder extended its win streak to a season high 11 games with a come-from-behind 6-4 victory over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats Thursday night at Waterfront Park.
RF Bronson Sardinha, transferred from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes Barre earlier in the day, went 3-for-3 with a home run, a triple and a single, driving in four runs to pace Trenton (58-31).
The loss spoiled a nice come-from-behind effort by the Fisher Cats (47-42). Trailing 3-0 in the 7th, New Hampshire used a two-out, two-run double by Ryan Patterson (3-for-4, 2 RBI), the RELCO Enlightening Play of the Game, to cut the deficit to 3-2. RHP Jeff Kennard, who had come on in relief of starter Ian Kennedy, allowed the Patterson hit, followed by RBI singles by David Smith (2-for-3) and Dustin Majewski as New Hampshire took its first lead at 4-3.
Sardinha's homer, off starter Ricky Romero, gave Trenton a 2-0 lead in the fourth. Romero, who allowed 3 hits and 3 ER over 5 innings, walked DH Juan Miranda with the bases loaded in the fifth to put the Thunder in front 3-0. Romero walked five batters, but also struck out a career-high nine.
In the eighth, Miranda was hit by a pitch by Jesse Carlson. Tracy Thorpe (5-3) allowed a broken bat single to Matt Carson before Sardinha tripled to left center putting the Thunder back in front. P-J Pilittere followed with an RBI single.
Justin Pope (1-0) worked two shutout innings in relief to earn his first win of the season.
The four-game series with Trenton continues Friday night with RHP Ismael Ramirez (1-1, 4.40) scheduled to start for New Hampshire against RHP Phil Hughes, on a rehab assignment, for Trenton. Game time is 7:05pm. Radio coverage begins at 6:45pm on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network (610-AM, Manchester; 930-AM, Rochester; 1540-AM, Exeter) with Bob Lipman.
The Fisher Cats return home Monday night to open a series with Portland at 7:05pm. Monday, the first 2,000 fans will receive a New Britain Mo Vaughn Bobblehead courtesy of Grappone Auto. For tickets, visit www.nhfishercats.com or call 603-641-2005.
