Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Bobby Parnell tossed six strong innings, but the Binghamton Mets fell to the Connecticut Defenders 2-1 at Dodd Stadium Thursday. The loss is Binghamton's second in a row.

Parnell kept Connecticut (39-51) off the scoreboard through the first five innings, allowing just two hits. However, Eugenio Velez led off the sixth with a single before Trey Webb was hit by a pitch. Two batters later, Tyler Von Schell singled home Velez for a 1-0 Defenders lead.

The B-Mets (37-51) couldn't push across a run against Connecticut starter Nick Pereira over six innings, but they got to reliever Osiris Matos (4-0) in the top of the eighth. Mark Kiger led off the frame with a double before Mike Carp's groundout moved him to third. Caleb Stewart followed with a base hit to center, scoring Kiger and tying the game 1-1.

Binghamton reliever Salvador Aguilar (4-4) began the eighth by walking Alex Requeña before Velez singled. Two batters later, John Bowker drew a walk against Kevin Tomasiewicz, who was pulled in favor of Brandon Nall. After getting the second out of the inning, Nall hit Simon Klink with the bases loaded, forcing in Velez with the go-ahead run.

Connecticut's Brian Anderson pitched a scoreless ninth for his 21st save in 26 chances.

Friday, the Binghamton Mets play the second game of their four-game series against the Connecticut Defenders. Jose Sanchez (1-4, 4.15) will start for the B-Mets against Dave McKae (3-1, 2.40) of Connecticut. Game time is 7:05 from Dodd Stadium with the radio broadcast starting at 6:50 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.

Notes: Binghamton's 4-6 in their last 10 games, all of which have been decided by two runs or fewer...Parnell's seven Ks ties his B-Mets season high, originally accomplished 6/15 @ HAR...the loss moves the B-Mets into last place in the EL North, a game behind Connecticut.
