Reading Fightin Phils News Release

Reading, PA -- Juan Tejeda's two-out, pinch-hit grand slam in the eighth inning broke open a tight game, and the Phillies went on to a 6-1 victory over the Harrisburg Senators Thursday night before 8,950.

The Phillies (46-45) have beaten the Senators 14 times in 19 meetings this season.

The victory went to Cory Willey (2-1), who pitched out of a two-on jam in the sixth inning in relief of Carlos Carrasco. Julio De La Cruz followed with two scoreless innings, and Chris Key pitched a scoreless ninth.

Carrasco, coming off a shutout inning Sunday in the Futures Game, battled wildness over his five innings, but managed to hold the Senators to a single run on Josh Whitesell's home run in the third, his 12th. Carrasco walked three batters and hit two while allowing five hits, but he stranded eight runners, including three in the first inning.

He also was the beneficiary of a terrific running catch in right-center by his center fielder, Javon Moran, and was part of a 1-4-6-3 double play in the fourth, when he plunked the first two batters he faced. He needed 90 pitches to get through his five innings.

The Phillies had jumped ahead 2-1 in the sixth on a RBI single by Mike Costanzo and a throwing error by the second baseman.

Moran had three of the Phillies' seven hits, was on base four times, stole a base and scored the go-ahead run.

The Senators (31-61), who stranded a total of 14 runners, have lost nine of their 10 July games. Frank Diaz had three of their nine hits.
