Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves picked up their fourth straight win behind a complete game victory for Andrew Kown against the Bowie Baysox on Thursday night. Erie also banged out a season-high five home runs in the game as they won their fifth straight over the Baysox.
The SeaWolves got on the board first in the bottom of the first inning. Clete Thomas led off and he squeaked a single passed the first baseman Luis Jimenez. Andres Torres then sacrificed Thomas over to second bringing Mike Hollimon to the plate. With the count 2-2, Hollimon lined a two-run home run, opposite field home run, putting the âWolves on top 2-0. The home run was the ninth on the season for Hollimon.
The âWolves added a run in the bottom of the third inning. Torres singled with one out and Hollimon came through with his second hit of the day, a single, putting runners on the corners for Jackson Melian. Melian connected on an infield single, scoring Torres, for a 3-0 âWolves lead.
The Baysox got on the board in the top of the fourth inning off of starter Andrew Kown. Bryan Bass doubled with on out and Val Majewski connected on a bloop single to left, putting runners on the corners for Oscar Salazar. Salazar lined a single to left field, scoring Bass, cutting the Erie lead down to 3-1.
The SeaWolves added to the lead in the bottom of the seventh. Jeff Larish stepped to the plate and slammed his 17th home run of the season. The opposite field shot put the âWolves ahead 4-1. Erick Almonte followed with a base hit bringing Kody Kirkland to the plate. Kirkland stepped in and slammed a two-run, home run, over the wall in left, putting Erie ahead 6-1. The home run for Kirkland was his first since June 15 and it was the third home run of the game for Erie.
Erie again added insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Hollimon led off the inning and he connected on his second home run of the game and his 10th of the season for a 7-1 âWolves lead. Hollimon hit a home run from each side of the plate. With two outs, Steve Torrealba drew a walk brining Jeff Larish to the plate. Larish dug in and slammed his second home run of the game. The two home run game gives Larish the Eastern Leauge lead with 18 long balls. He also leads the league with 69 RBI. The âWolves lead the Eastern League with 85 home runs.
Kown (3-5) went the distance for the âWolves allowing a run on six hits. He did not issue a walk for only the second time as a starting pitcher and he struck out five (one away from a season high). The only inning in the game where the Baysox had more than one baserunner on was in the fourth, when they scored their lone run. Kown gave the âWolves their league leading seventh complete game.
