Sardinha Helps Thunder Win 11th Straight

(Trenton, NJ)- Bronson Sardinha's two-run triple in the 8th Inning helped the Trenton Thunder rally for a 6-4 win over New Hampshire on Thursday night. The win is the 11th in a row for the Thunder (58-31), giving Trenton an 11-game lead over the Fisher Cats in Northern Division play.
Sardinha, sent down from Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre, delivered three hits and four RBI in his first game back with Trenton. Sardinha roped a two-run homer to right off New Hampshire starter Ricky Romero in the 4th Inning for a 2-0 lead. The Thunder loaded the bases against Romero. Juan Miranda enduced a walk that forced in a run for a 3-0 lead. Romero allowed three runs in five innings with nine strikeouts and four walks.
Thunder starter Ian Kennedy blanked the Fisher Cats thorugh the first six innings, but New Hampshire rallied with four runs in the 7th Inning for the lead. Kennedy left the game with two men on and two outs, but three straight hits off reliever Jeff Kennard put the Fisher Cats in front by a run. The Thunder responded in the 8th Inning as Sardinha tripled home a pair of runs off reliever Tracy Thorpe for a 5-4 lead. C P.J. Pilittere added an RBI single for an insurance run.
Justin Pope (1-0) worked two scoreless innings of relief for Trenton to earn the win. Thorpe (5-3) took the loss, allowing three runs in the 8th Inning and getting just two outs.
The series continues on Friday at 7:05 PM. Phil Hughes makes a start on a Major League Rehab assignment for the Thunder. He goes against New Hampshire's Ismael Ramirez (1-1, 4.40).
Thunder Bolts - The 11-game win streak matches the longest of the season for Trenton. The Thunder also won eleven straight from April 20th to May 2nd. The franchise record in 13 straight wins (April 15-30, 1996). This streak is the third "double-digit" win streak this season for Trenton.
