Miscellaneous Notes

Last Game... The Senators and Trenton Thunder played an ugly game on Sunday afternoon that resulted in an 8-4 win for the Thunder. The two teams combined to walk 19 batters and allow 20 hits, but just twelve runs. Trenton also had two home runs which helped the run production, and the Senators walked in three runs which was the difference in the game. Both Luke Montz and Marco Yepez had two hits, but the Senators stranded a season high 14 base runners and couldn't get the "big" hit that was needed. The Senators also used a season high six pitchers in the and Trenton five, so the two teams combined to use eleven pitchers in the game. It was also the longest nine-inning game this season for the Sens at 3:28.

Tonight's Game... The Senators and Reading Phillies open up their post all-star game four-game series tonight in Reading. The Phillies have had the Senators number this year, winning 13 of the first 18 games this season. The teams play eight more times, including tonight, this season. The R-Phils spend the last four days of the regular season in Harrisburg

Tonight's Starting Pitcher... The Senators send RH Beltran Perez to the mound against RH Carlos Carrasco for the Phillies. Magrane is making his sixth start this season for the Senators and first since 5/29. He was originally signed as a nondrafted free agent in 1999 by the Devil Rays. He spent the last seven years in Tampa's organization, going 61-64 in 203G/171GS. He made his start on Saturday, July 7th against Trenton. In that start, he lasted six innings giving up just two earned runs but taking the loss.

All-Stars... RHP Collin Balester, RHP Dan Kolb, RHP Brett Campbell and 1B Josh Whitesell have all been named to the Southern Division All-Star team. Neither of the four players appeared in the fog shortened game last night in Connecticut.

Not so Hot... After finishing June having won 8 of their final 14 games, the Sens are just 1-8 in July. They are batting just .190 in the first nine games of the month with a 4.86 ERA. After being near the top of the league in fielding and home runs, the Sens have fallen in both categories thanks to a poor month thus far. They have just five HR's so far this month and have committed twelve errors in the first nine games. Overall the team has dropped from first in defense to fifth in defense. And they have dropped to third in HR's with 71 in the Eastern League six behind the league leading R-Phils who have 77.

Month by Month... The Senators have not had a full winning month since last June. This year, their best month has been May when they had a 14-17 record. After going 5-17 in April, and now 11-18 in June, the Senators are looking for their first winning month of the season in July. Going back to the 2004 season, the Senators have had just three winning months (16-12 in July 2005; 15-9 in April 2006, and 16-9 in June 2006).
