Mahoning Valley Scrappers News Release

Tied at two going into the ninth inning, the Scrappers (21-24) looked like they would possibly be in for a late night and some late inning magic against the Muckdogs (19-26).

It didn't take long for the 3,005 at Eastwood Field to slowly make their way toward the exits. In the top of the fifth, Angel Reyes scored on an RBI double for Taylor Munden. Munden later scored on a Giovanny Alfonzo single to center.

In the bottom of the fifth, the Scrappers responded -- with two triples. Juan De La Cruz tripled to center to score Daniel Salters, who reached on a single. Later, Nate Winfrey tripled to right to plate De La Cruz.

Devon Stuart (0-2) got roughed up in the ninth. He hit Brad Haynal with a pitch. Brandon Rawe came into pinch run. Roy Morales hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Rawe, and then Yuniel Ramirez scored on a Munden single to center.

In the bottom of the ninth, the Scrappers had Connor Marabell on base but couldn't come up with two runs to tie the game in the ninth and force extra, or even win.

Casey Shane went a season-high seven innings and only gave up four hits. Shane gave up two runs, but none of them were earned. He struck out three. Ryan Perez pitched a scoreless eighth inning.

Aneury Osoria (1-0) got the win, while Steve Farnworth picked up his ninth save of the year.

The Scrappers look to avoid a sweep against the Muckdogs on Saturday night at 7:05. Jared Robinson will be on the mound against Jordan Holloway.
