Hudson Valley Falls Late to the Yankees

Wappingers Falls, NY - The Hudson Valley Renegades were defeated by the Staten Island Yankees on Friday evening by a score of 6-4 at Dutchess Stadium.

The Renegades scored the games first run in the bottom of the third inning as with two outs, right fielder Manny Sanchez hit an infield single that brought home shortstop Michael Russell, giving Hudson Valley a 1-0 lead.

The 'Gades scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead as center fielder Angel Moreno hit a RBI triple and saw second baseman Oscar Sanay and catcher Josh Rapacz follow up with RBI doubles.

The Yankees cut the Renegades lead to 4-1 in the top of the fifth inning when second baseman Brandon Wagner tripled and scored on a RBI sacrifice fly from catcher KJ Alexander.

Staten Island struck for four runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 5-4 lead. Wagner and Alexander each had RBI singles and designated hitter Junior Valera brought home two runs on a triple. The Yankees added one more run in the top of the 8th inning on a RBI single from left fielder Zach Zehner to take a 6-4 lead.

Staten Island's starting pitcher Derek Callahan (4-2) picked up the win as he tossed six innings while allowing four runs and three earned runs. Josh Roeder picked up his third save of the season for the Yankees as he pitched a scoreless ninth inning.

The loss went to Justin McCalvin (1-1) who gave up four runs and one earned run in an inning in relief of Benton Moss, who started the game for the Renegades and struck out eight batters over six innings of work, while allowing just one run.

With the results, the Renegades fell to 22-24 while the Yankees improved their record to 24-21.
