-SPIKES CONTINUE ROAD TRIP AGAINST BLACK BEARS: The State College Spikes continue their 10th Season tonight as they play the middle game of a three-game series against the West Virginia Black Bears with a matchup at Monongalia County Ballpark. The series is part of a six-game road swing for the Spikes, who went 1-2 at Batavia to start the trip. State College is 5-2 this season against West Virginia, and took two out of three games from the Black Bears at Monongalia County Ballpark from July 15-17. The Spikes are 1 1/2 games back of the New York-Penn League Wild Card lead, with the Black Bears just a game back as part of a crowded race entering Friday night.

-LAST GAMES: The Spikes went to extra innings after leading by as many as four runs, but regrouped as Thomas Spitz doubled in the go-ahead run in the tenth to give the Spikes a 7-6 victory over the West Virginia Black Bears on Thursday night at Monongalia County Ballpark. Spitz's two-out two-base hit down the third base line knocked in Jhohan Acevedo with the go-ahead run in the top of the inning, but it was not until Pedro Echemendia struck out New York-Penn League RBI leader Logan Hill with the potential winning run on base in the bottom of the tenth that the Spikes salted away the victory. State College built a 6-2 going into the seventh, keyed by Orlando Olivera's team-leading third home run of the season. However, West Virginia plated two runs and tied the game in the ninth on a two-out single by Maximo Rivera before Spitz's heroics in the tenth.

-CROSS ON THE MOUND FOR SPIKES: Right-hander Carson Cross gets the ball for State College tonight. Cross went a career-long six innings and struck out a career-high six batters in his last outing, a no-decision against Lowell on Saturday. The right-hander from UConn makes his seventh appearances and sixth start in the pros tonight. This will be Cross's first start against West Virginia, but the Brentwood, NH native pitched four shutout innings on artificial turf against Hudson Valley on July 25. Cross has not allowed a home run to any of the 89 batters he has faced as a professional.

-BLACK BEARS SEND AGRAZAL TO HILL: West Virginia will put right-hander Dario Agrazal on the mound to start tonight's game. Agrazal is the only Black Bears starting pitcher with an ERA under 3.00 this season, and the Aguadulce, Panama native has gone at least five innings in every outing. The righty is meeting the Spikes for the third time, after taking a loss at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on July 1 and earning the win on July 17 at Monongalia County Ballpark.

-GRAYSON DELIVERING BIG NUMBERS: Casey Grayson is still at or near the top of several leaderboards in the New York-Penn League. The University of Houston product is leading the NYPL batting race with a .340 average. Grayson's .438 on-base percentage is second in the league, and he occupies spots in the NYPL's top five in hits (T-1st, 51), runs batted in (4th, 27) and walks (2nd, 27). The Cypress, TX native has also reached base in every home game he has played this season, a 23-game string.

-DICKERSON MAKES MLB DEBUT: 2011 Spike Alex Dickerson became the 29th player to go from State College to the major leagues on Thursday when he pinch-hit in the eighth inning for the San Diego Padres against the Milwaukee Brewers. Dickerson had been called up by the Padres earlier in the day.

-SPIKE MARKS: Last night's win was the first for the Spikes in extra innings this season...Mike Pritchard is second in the league in runs scored with 31 on the season...Leobaldo Pina is fifth in the NYPL in hits with 48...State College is 6-1 on turf this year, with a sweep of Hudson Valley and a 3-1 record at West Virginia...Landon Beck, who struck out eight batters over 5 2/3 innings last night, is now second in the league in whiffs with 44.
