LOWELL, MA-The Connecticut Tigers (23-22) moved above .500 for the first time since July 28th with a 7-1 win over the Lowell Spinners (24-23). Connecticut has now won three games wins in a row and nine of their last eleven road games.

On Friday night Connecticut was able to jump all over Lowell starter Javier Rodriguez (0-4). With the game scoreless going to the second inning designated hitter Corey Baptist led off the inning with a single. With two outs in the inning catcher Shane Zeile opened the scoring with a bang by launching two run home run to left field making it 2-0. It was Zeile's third home run of the year.

After the Tigers scored another run in the third they struck for two more in the fourth. The first two batters of the inning walked to begin the frame. The first run scored on a fielder's choice by AJ Simcox and the second run scored on a sacrifice fly by Jose Zambrano pushing the lead to 5-0.

Lowell would make it 5-1 in the fifth as Connecticut handed the ball to Chase Edwards (6-3) who labored on the night but still picked up the win. Edwards went three plus giving up a run on seven hits and striking out one and walking two.

Edwards left the game in the seventh inning with two runners on and nobody out, as he was replaced by Nate Fury (SV 2). With one out Fury issued a walk to load the bases. However, he was able to pitch out of trouble as he got a fly out and a fielder's choice ground out to end the inning.

Fury ended up working three innings giving up just one hit and striking out three batters. Matt Hall started for the game and was very good surrendering just a single hit.

Lowell got a rough start from Rodriguez who lasted just three and a third innings. Rodriguez walked six batters, allowed three hits and five runs all earned. Daniel Gonzalez pitched well in relief for Lowell giving up just two runs in five and two thirds innings of work.

Lowell left the bases loaded twice on the night and had a runner thrown out at the plate. First basemen Will Allen had a two run RBI single in the ninth and he now has five RBI in the series.

Connecticut will play the final game of the three game series at Lowell on Saturday. The first pitch tomorrow is scheduled for 5:05 p.m.
