Scrappers Break Home Jinx

Going into Thursday's game against Auburn, the Scrappers were 1-8 at home.

On Thursday night, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers (9-16) got a 4-3 win against the Auburn Doubledays (10-14) at Eastwood Field.

Casey Shane was excellent. He set down the first nine batters he faced. Auburn struck first in the top of the fourth. Andrew Stevenson singled to center to score Rafael Bautista, who doubled to begin the inning. Stevenson then stole second, advanced to third on a throwing error by Daniel Salters, and then scored on another error by Salters. The Doubledays led 2-0 after four.

In the sixth, Willi Castro singled. Ka'ai Tom singled. Emmanuel Tapia singled to right to load the bases. Austin Fisher then reached on an error by shortstop Edwin Lora to score Castro. Nate Winfrey singled to right to score Tom to tie the game. Next batter, Connor Marabell, who entered the game with just one run driven in, singled to center to score Tapia and Fisher to give Mahoning Valley a 4-2 lead.

In the top of the seventh, Max Schrock tripled to right and scored on a ground out from Jakson Reetz.

Yoiber Marquina came in for the ninth and earned the save. Cortland Cox came in for relief again and was simply dominant. He pitched two and one-third innings giving up two hits, one earned run, and struck out four.

The Scrappers look for their second consecutive series win on Friday night in the third game of the series against the Doubledays. Jared Robinson gets the ball for Mahoning Valley. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
