Hudson Valley Renegades News Release
Aberdeen, MD (7/16/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Aberdeen IronBirds by a score of 6-3 on Thursday evening at Ripken Stadium. With the win, Hudson Valley improved their overall record to 13-12 while Aberdeen dropped to 13-12.
Hudson Valley struck for three runs in the top of the second inning to take an early lead. After right fielder Manny Sanchez and center fielder Angel Moreno each singled with two outs, first baseman Nic Wilson drove them both in with a two-run double. Wilson came in to score later in the inning on a RBI double by second baseman Jake Cronenworth, giving the Renegades a 3-0 lead.
Aberdeen cut the Renegades lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the second inning on RBI doubles from third baseman Austin Pfeiffer and catcher Jerry McClanahan. The next three innings went scoreless before the 'Gades picked up two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to take a 5-2 lead on RBI doubles from designated hitter Cade Gotta and Sanchez.
That was all the run support that Hudson Valley's starting pitcher Roel Ramirez (3-0) needed as he picked up the win. In six innings of work, Ramirez allowed two runs off six hits while striking out four.
Hudson Valley picked up their sixth run of the evening in the eighth inning as Sanchez singled and came around to score on a RBI double by Moreno. Between Sanchez and Moreno, they combined to go five-for-seven at the plate with two RBI and three runs scored. Aberdeen scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning on first baseman Steve Laurino's RBI ground out after Robert Gassaway tripled to lead off the inning.
Jean Cosme (1-3) took the loss for Aberdeen, giving up three runs off four hits in five innings pitched. Luis Urena tossed three innings in relief of Ramirez and earned his first save of the season, giving up one run off one hit while striking out three batters.
Notes:
Hudson Valley retook the New York-Penn league lead in doubles after five different Renegades players doubled tonight. That gives the Renegades 54 doubles on the season. Both Cade Gotta and Manny Sanchez each doubled and are tied for the team lead with seven apiece.Â
