TROY, NY --- The Vermont Lake Monsters rallied from a two-run deficit with two runs in the eighth inning and three more runs in the ninth for a 10-7 New York-Penn League victory over the Tri-City ValleyCats on Thursday night at Bruno Stadium.

Vermont jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, including an RBI single for Mickey White to extend his hitting streak to 13 games. But Tri-City responded with five runs on six hits off Lake Monsters starter Chris Kohler in the bottom of the third before both teams scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings for a 7-5 ValleyCats lead.

The Lake Monsters tied the game with a pair of runs in the eighth as Trace Loehr led off with a walk and advanced to third on a Steven Pallares double. Richie Martin knocked home Loehr with an RBI groundout to second base and Pallares scored the tying run on a two-out wild pitch by reliever Adam Whitt.

Four of the first five Vermont hitters in the ninth inning had a base hit as Seth Brown led off with a single and scored on Skye Bolt's second double of the night to give the Lake Monsters an 8-7 lead. Nick Collins followed with an RBI single and advanced to second on a Jesus Lopez groundout and later scored from third base on a two-out fielding error. James Naile came on in bottom of ninth and allowed a two-out double before recording the final out for his second save.

Loehr was 3-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and one RBI, while Martin was 3-for-6 and Bolt 2-for-5 with two runs and the two doubles. The Lake Monsters finished with a season-high 14 hits in the game and scored 10 runs for the second time this season (lost 12-10 to Aberdeen on June 23rd). It was also the first time this season that Vermont has won when the opponent scored five or more runs (had been 0-13). With the five runs scored over the final two innings, Vermont is now outscoring its opponents 35-12 this season in the eighth and ninth innings combined.

Kolbey Carpenter was 3-for-5 with three RBI, while Dexture McCall 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI for Tri-City (13-13). Whitt (2-1) was charged with three runs (two earned) on four hits over two innings to take the loss, while Vermont's Bubba Derby allowed one run on two hits with one walk and three strikeouts over three innings of relief for his first professional victory.

Vermont (11-14) will look for its third straight series victory on Friday night in the series finale at Tri-City beginning at 7:00 pm. The Lake Monsters then head to Brooklyn for a three-game series against the Cyclones before returning to historic Centennial Field to begin a six-game homestand on Tuesday.
