Aberdeen IronBirds News Release
The IronBirds fell on Thursday night in game two of a three game series against the Hudson Valley Renegades by a score of 6-3. The Renegades used six extra-base hits to earn the win.
Falling Behind
With two men on and two outs in the second inning, the Renegades Nic Wilson knocked a ball to center field for a two-run RBI double. After the two-bagger, Jake Cronenworth doubled to extend the lead to three.
Not So Fast
With Steve Laurino at first base in the bottom of the second, Austin Pfeiffer came to the plate and laced a ball to centerfield for an RBI double, making the score 3-1. After Mike Odenwaelder moved Pfeiffer to third base with a deep fly-out to left-center field, Jerry McClanahan kept the rally going with a ground ball under the glove of Hudson Valley third basemen Matt Dacey, scoring Pfeiffer from third base, making it 3-2 Renegades.
Piling It On
With the same score in the sixth, Cade Gotta put a ball down the third base line for an RBI double to score Joe McCarthy. Manny Sanchez hit his second RBI double of the night to push Gotta across the plate, extending the lead to 5-2.
Still Going
Angel Moreno hit the Renegades fourth RBI double of the night in the seventh inning to score their final run of the game, making it 6-2. Moreno tried to increase his double to a triple on the hit, but was thrown out at third base.
Not Giving Up
Randy Gassaway hit a single to right field that snuck through the legs of Manny Sanchez, allowing Gassaway to hustle into third in the bottom of the ninth. Steve Laurino followed the hit with an RBI groundout to bring Gassaway home. That would make it 6-3, but thats all the IronBirds could muster.
