Norwich Sea Unicorns News Release
NORWICH, CT-The Connecticut Tigers (11-14) fell to the Lowell Spinners (16-10) for the second straight night, this time by a score of 1-0. For Connecticut it was their third straight lose and sixth in the last eight games. It is also the fourth time this year the Tigers have been shutout.
Lowell scored the only run of the game in the fifth inning off Tigers reliever Chase Edwards. With one out in the inning Edwards (2-3) allowed a double to third basemen Aneudis Peralta (1-3, R). With two outs in the inning shortstop Jeremy Rivera (2-3) laid down a bunt base hit and when the throw to first was thrown away Peralta scored from second making it 1-0.
Chase Edwards ended up working five innings in the game allowing just a single hit and striking out six. The only run he allowed was unearned. Edwards worked in relief of the starter Matt Hall who pitched three very strong innings as he struck out four and allowed one hit.
The Tigers had two golden opportunities to tie the game or take the lead. In the eighth inning they loaded the bases with two outs but failed to score. Edwar Martinez (SV 3) recorded a strikeout for the final out of the inning. In the ninth Connecticut again loaded the bases, this time with just one out. However, Martinez was able to get the final two batters to seal the victory.
Dioscar Romero (2-2) started the game for Lowell and was brilliant. He worked six innings scattering four hits while picking up three strike outs to go along with three walks.
Connecticut will play at Lowell tomorrow in the final game of the three game series. The first pitch on Friday is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
