With the victory and losses by the Windy City ThunderBolts and division leading Gateway Grizlles, the Boomers (47-35) now sit just one game back in the West Division Standings with 14 games remaining in the 2012 Frontier League Regular Season. Playoff tickets for the Boomers Inaugural Season are on sale now online at www.boomersbaseball.com, by calling 847.461.3695 or stopping by the Boomers Box Office.
The Boomers jumped out to a 4-0 lead Friday and never looked back despite collecting just four hits in the contest. Regardless of the low hit total, Schaumburg had runners on base all night as the Boomers, lead by Karexon Sanchez's four walks, earned 12 free passes from the Road Warriors staff and made the most of their four hits. Mike Valadez drove home the Boomers first fun of the contest with a clutch two-out single in the bottom of the second and Schaumburg broke the game open with three runs in the second highlighted by Steve McQuail's two-RBI line drive single to center. Chad Mozingo walked twice, scored a pair of runs and drove home the other run in the third on his 18th double of the season.
Rivers (3-3, 5.80) rebounded from a rough start last time out to earn his first win since July 26th. Over his seven innings of work, the Boomers right-hander held the Road Warriors to just two runs on five hits with a pair of strikeouts. Kirk Clark pitched a scoreless eighth and Patrick Mincey shut the door in the ninth for his 13th save of the season, his first since July 28th.
Schaumburg looks to make it three with a win over the Road Warriors on Kids in Free day at Boomers Stadium. The Boomers send RHP Cody Griebling (4-1, 2.30) will take on RHP Tyler Vaske (0-0, 1.80) for the Road Warriors.
