Joliet Slammers News Release

(Joliet, IL)- The Lake Erie Crushers handed the Slammers their fourth straight loss in a tight 4-3 contest to open the series on Friday in Joliet.

The game was a pitcher's duel early on, and the Slammers struck first. With two runners aboard in the third inning, Brad Netzel lofted a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0 Joliet.

The Crushers didn't answer until sixth when Andrew Davis slapped an RBI single with runners on the corners to tie things up. But Joliet pulled ahead in the home half when David Christensen belted a run-scoring double to take a 2-1 lead through six.

Lake Erie closed the gap yet again in the seventh on a wild pitch for a tie at two apiece. Their offense finally came alive in the eighth when they loaded the bases on Joliet's Chase Doremus. Geoff Brown entered in relief, but surrendered a pair of runs on another Andrew Davis base hit and handed the Crushers a 4-2 advantage.

Joliet pulled closer in the home half of the inning when Patrick Norris came across on a wild pitch, but they came up just short in the 4-3 final.

Tommy Mendoza threw into the seventh for the Slammers and surrendered just two runs, but the relief allowed the winning runs.

Joliet keeps the homestand rolling at Silver Cross Field Saturday night with the Lake Erie Crushers. Fans can listen to the game on AM 1340 WJOL with Aaron Morse and Greg Talbott calling the action.
