Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums tallied the first run of the game, but the River City Rascals fought back, claiming a 5-2 victory over TC.

The Beach Bums jumped on the board in the first inning as Ryan Still worked a leadoff walk. Groundouts by Brian Heere and Jose Vargas moved Still to third where he stood when Chase Burch came to the plate and singled home Still for a 1-0 Traverse City lead.

River City would draw even in the third when a Doug Sanders single scored Eric Williams who had walked with one out. In the foruth, Jeremy Synan homered for the Rascals to put RC up 2-1. Back-to-back singles from Corey LeVier and Curran Redal put runners on the corners for Matt Serna who executed a suicide squeeze bunt to bring home LeVier and make it 3-1. River City added single runs in the sixth and seventh to build the lead to 5-1.

Leading off the bottom of the seventh, Kyle Colligan brought the Beach Bums closer with a solo homer, his sixth of the year, but that was as close as Traverse City would get as the combo of Liam Ohlmann and Nick Kennedy finished things off.

Ohlmann (1-3) earned the win with 7.2 innings of work, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out 11. Kennedy recorded the final four outs for his second save. Scott Dunn (5-4) took the loss.

The Beach Bums did make some team history in the game, however, as Traverse City turne four double plays in the contest, the most even in a single game for TC.

Saturday night bring your sunglasses, wear your beach attire and be transported to a tropical place when you visit Wuerfel Park on Beach Bash Night.
