Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

Ace Walker is definitely the most comfortable at home.

The Goldeyes (7-3) starter went seven scoreless innings as the Goldeyes beat the Amarillo Sox (6-5) 4-3 in Winnipeg's home opener before 7,422 fans at Shaw Park.

After four scoreless innings, the Goldeyes scored twice in the bottom of the fifth inning to take a 2-0 lead with a two-RBI single from Price Kendall.

Winnipeg added another run in the sixth off a Ridge Carpenter ground ball that scored Luis Alen from third. The Goldeyes then took a 4-0 lead in the seventh inning when a grounder from Matt Cusick went between the legs of Amarillo third baseman Matthew Tucker and Price Kendall trotted home from second base.

Things got a little hairy for the Goldeyes in the ninth when Amarillo scored three runs, but Nick Carr was able to work out of the jam and left the tying run on third base.

Walker, who allowed just one hit, picked up his first of the season. He is now just four strikeouts away from passing Rick Forney for the all-time Goldeyes strikeout record with 314 Ks.

Amarillo starter Chuck Lofgren suffers his first loss of the season.

The Goldeyes and Sox play the middle game of this three-game set tomorrow night at Shaw Park. Winnipeg will send Chris Salamida (0-0, 4.00) to the mound. Amarillo will go with Justin Garcia (0-0, 3.86).

The pre-game show tomorrow night on TSN 1290 with Paul Edmonds begins at 6:30 p.m. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
