American Association Game Recaps
May 29, 2012 - American Association (AA) News Release
St. Paul 8, Quebec 2
The Saints scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back en route to an 8-2 win over Quebec. St. Paul 2B Jon Townsend went 2-for-4 with a run and two RBI, including a two-run double in the five-run first. Jon and Tanner Townsend each had two doubles, with Tanner going 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Starting Saints pitcher Alberto Rolon threw seven innings and allowed only one run on three hits and six walks with two strikeouts. Capitales CF Sebastien Boucher hit a solo home run in the eighth to bring his club within five runs at 7-2, but that was as close as Quebec got the rest of the night.
Grand Prairie 2, Sioux City 0
AirHogs starting pitcher John Brownell was nearly unhittable Tuesday evening, throwing a complete-game three-hitter against the Explorers and winning, 2-0. Brownell struck out seven Sioux City batters and didn't walk one. Brownell is now 2-1 on the season with a 2.57 ERA. Grand Prairie put their two runs on the board in the first two frames. And with Brownell retiring Sioux City batter after Sioux City batter, that lead was never in jeopardy.
Lincoln 4, Laredo 0
Saltdogs 1B John Alonso hit his fifth home run of the season Tuesday night, helping Lincoln take down Laredo, 4-0. The two-run homer came with no outs in the bottom of the sixth inning and gave Alonso his 18th and 19th RBI of the year. Starting Satldogs pitcher Ryan Sheldon pulled his record to 2-0 on the year, throwing seven scoreless innings and striking out seven Laredo batters while allowing only five hits. At the plate for Laredo, SS Jimmy Mojica went 4-for-4 but never made it back to home plate. Mojica is hitting .316 on the season.
Winnipeg 4, Amarillo 3
Goldeyes pitchers struck out eight Amarillo batters while allowing no runs on just five hits and a single walk, helping Winnipeg defeat Amarillo, 4-3. Starting Goldeyes pitcher Andrew E. Walker picked up six of those strikeouts and surrendered only one hit in seven innings of work, lowering his season ERA to 3.45. And his 11 seasons nearly quadruple his three walks surrendered. Only one Winnipeg batter picked up more than one hit, as LF Dan Barbero went 2-for-4. But timely hitting with men on base allowed the Goldeyes to pick up the one-run win over Amarillo.
Kansas City 9, El Paso 6 (In progress - Bottom 8)
The game between Kansas City and El Paso is still in progress in the bottom of the eighth inning. Kansas City is leading, 9-6.
