RedHawks Drop Third Straight in 10-6 Loss to Wingnuts

Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks reliever Joe Harris kept the RedHawks in the game for four innings before the Wichita Wingnuts scored four in the eighth to cruise to a 10-6 win at Newman Outdoor Field on May 29, 2012.
RedHawks starting pitcher Alex Rivers lasted only 2 2/3 innings giving up 5 earned runs on eight hits and five walks to the Wingnuts before Harris would come in to end the third inning with a five run deficit.
After a homerun in the top of the fifth by Wichita catcher Tyler Freeman extended the lead to six, the RedHawks answered back with four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Zach Penprase started the scoring off with a single to score Todd Jennings and Ryan Stovall. Singles by Enrique Cruz, Marcos Rodriguez, and Ryan Delgado would help Fargo-Moorhead cut the lead to 6-4.
Harris would stay in the game until he was relieved after he hit the leadoff batter in the eighth. Wichita's Ryan Khoury, Jake Kahaulelio, Mitch Einertson, and C.J. Ziegler would all hit singles in an inning that Wichita scored four more runs off RedHawks reliever Kyle Dahman.
The RedHawks attempted at a rally late. Todd Jennings hit a homerun in the eighth to cut the Wichita lead to five. In the ninth, Rodriguez hit a single, Delgado hit a double, and Cato walked to load the bases. Jenning would pick up an RBI on a two out walk that scored Rodriguez. However, Stovall would hit a pop-up to Wichita's Freeman on the first pitch to end the game.
The Wingnuts (9-3) have now won seven straight games and are leading the central division with the best record in the American Association. Starting pitcher Ben Graham (1-1) picked up the win after working five innings and giving up four earned runs on eight hits. Kahaulelio lead the team going 4-for-6 with 4 RBIs and two runs. Einertson and Freeman both went 3-for-5 with Freeman crossing the plate three times and hitting his first homerun of the season. Edgar Martinez picked up his first save of the season after coming in with two outs to pitch to Ryan Stovall.
The RedHawks (5-7) dropped their third straight game and are now 1-4 at home this season. Joe Harris pitched 4 1/3 innings out of the bullpen for Fargo-Moorhead giving up two earned runs on two hits with six strikeouts. Alex Rivers was tallied the loss for the RedHawks. Rodriguez lead the RedHawks at the plate with a 3-for-4 day and an RBI. Delgado and Jennings had multi-hit games for the second game in a row. Jennings hit the first homerun by a RedHawks player at Newman Outdoor Field this season.
The RedHawks and Wingnuts wrap up a three-game series at Newman Outdoor Field tomorrow night at 7:02 p.m.
