Chavez Pitchers Lemurs to Win

Lincoln, NE - Chris Chavez was impressive over nine innings as he gave up two runs, on five hits, striking out six as the Lemurs went on to beat the Saltdogs 7-2 in the first game of a three game series.

Chavez's complete game win is the first in Laredo Lemurs history and get the team back on track after a five game losing streak and moves Chavez's record to 1-2 on the year.

The Lemurs offense got started early as they put up two runs in the first with a Jimmy Mojica double to start the rally. Mojica's double was followed up by a Stephen Douglas single and a RBI to drive home Mojica. John Allen walked to put runner at first and third and Stephen Pearson singled to drive in Douglas.

The Lemurs would score in five of the first seven innings and Stephen Douglas in his first game as a Lemur would lead the way, going three for five with a RBI, run scored, and a stolen base to make an impressive first impression.

Lemurs first baseman Stephen Pearson had his best night of the season as he went three for five at the plate, driving in two runs.

Anthony Scelfo kept his hitting streak alive with a double in the eighth and a ten game hitting streak in tack.

The Lemurs will send lefty Matt Way to the mound tomorrow night to see if the Lemurs can get two in a row against the Saltdogs. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm, Tuesday night at Haymarket Park, in Lincoln, NE.
