American Association Game Recaps

May 29, 2012 - American Association (AA) News Release

Sioux Falls 5, Gary SouthShore 0

Sioux Falls LHP Mitchell Clegg (pictured) got all the run support he needed in the first inning against the Gary SouthShore RailCats. After 1B Jared Bolden singled home the game's first run, RF Cristian Guerrero hit a three-run home run to give Sioux Falls an early 4-0 advantage. Guerrero led Sioux Falls offensively. On top of his home run, the right fielder added a double and a second run scored to his box score. That offensive showing was plenty for Clegg. The left-hander threw seven shutout innings, allowing three hits to get his first win of the year.

Wichita 10, Fargo-Moorhead 6

A fifth inning rally by Fargo-Moorhead was not enough to overcome Wichita's potent offense. The Wingnuts posted 14 hits to defeat the RedHawks, 10-6. Wichita began its attack in the early innings, striking for five runs in the first three innings. It was 6-0 in the bottom of the fifth when Fargo-Moorhead mounted a comeback. The RedHawks scored four runs on six hits, cutting the Wingnuts' lead to two runs.

Fargo-Moorhead's hope dissipated once again, however, when Wichita pulled away with four runs in the eighth. At day's end, four wingnuts had multi-hit games. Among the top performers were C Taylor Freeman and 2B Jake Kahaulelio. Freeman hit a home run and a double during a 3-for-5 afternoon. He also drove in two runs and scored three. Kahaulelio led the team with four hits and four RBI. The second baseman also had a double and scored twice. RHP Ben Graham improved his record to 1-1 with the win and RHP Edgar R. Martinez got the save.
