Amarillo ThunderHeads News Release

AMARILLO, TX - Pointstreak, the official statistician of the American Association of Independent Baseball, has named Amarillo Sox infielder Matt Tucker the Batter of the Week for the week of May 21-27.

Tucker is second in the league in batting with a .500 avg, just behind teammate Tim Alberts and just in front of teammate Adam Buschini. Additionally, his 14 RBI is second in the league while his has hit two homeruns, both inside-the-park.

The 28 year-old switch-hitter from Parker, Colorado devoured Laredo Lemurs pitching in a four-game sweep. Tucker went 13-21 with ten RBI and nine runs scored. His stretch was highlighted by the May 25 victory against Laredo where he went 4-6 with seven RBI, including hitting for the cycle. It was the first time a batter has hit for the cycle for the Amarillo Sox, it was also the first time Tucker has reached that achievement professionally, though he did do it in college.

The 6-1, 185 lbs infielder has also been a defensive stalwart, filling in at third base for the injured Van Pope. He is expected to return to the outfield after Pope returns to the lineup.
