Scales Tip in South Bay's Favor for Road Victory

EDINBURG, TX - The South Bay Lakers saw eight players score in double figures as they beat the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, 128-113, on Saturday night. For the Lakers (11-20), it was Zach Norvell Jr. who led the way, finishing with 17 points and a career-high-tying 13 rebounds for his second career double-double. Sindarius Thornwell paced the Vipers (11-23) with 15 points, 13 rebounds and seven assists.

South Bay took a 31-24 lead after the first quarter, as Pierre Jackson and Wayne Selden Jr. each scored nine points off the bench in the opening frame. The Lakers took a 10-point lead into the half, 74-64, behind a combined 15 points in the second quarter from Kostas Antetokounmpo and Norvell Jr., while the Vipers were led by 17 first-half points from Jacobi Boykins.

Going into the final period, South Bay held a 100-93 lead as Talen Horton-Tucker scored seven points in the third quarter to lead the road team. The Lakers outscored the Vipers by eight points in the final frame to secure the victory and mark an end to their losing streak.

Thornwell's near triple-double paced the Vipers, while Boykins scored a team-best 22 points off the bench. Jarell Martin scored 16 points, while Kerwin Roach and Brandon Sampson each scored 15 points. Isaiah Taylor rounded out the scoring for the home team with 10 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and two steals.

Norvell Jr.'s double-double led the Lakers and Jackson scored a team-high 21 points off the bench to go along with seven assists, four steals and three rebounds. All five starters scored in double figures, including 15 points, eight rebounds and four blocks from Antetokounmpo, 14 points apiece from Horton-Tucker and David Stockton and 11 points from Reggie Hearn. Selden Jr. tallied 17 points off the bench and Devontae Cacok made his return with 13 points and seven rebounds in 16 minutes.

South Bay will now travel to face the Oklahoma City Blue on Tuesday, February 4 at 5:00pm from the Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, OK.
