Jones' Historic Triple-Double Not Enough as Herd Drops Second Consecutive Game

MISSISSAUGA, ON - The Wisconsin Herd (23-7), the NBA G League affiliate of the Milwaukee Bucks, dropped its second consecutive game with a 110-103 loss to the Raptors 905 (13-18) on Saturday afternoon inside Paramount Fine Foods Centre.

Four Herd players scored in double figures, and for the seventh straight game, Jaylen Adams led the way for Wisconsin. Adams collected his second 30-point game of the season and poured in a game-high 32 points on 10-of-24 shooting. Jemerrio Jones had a monster afternoon and recorded his first career triple-double. Jones set career highs in rebounds and assists and posted a stat line of 12 points, 21 rebounds, 13 assists and two blocks. To put it in perspective, Jones became the fourth player in G League history to record a 20-rebound triple-double, while becoming the first player to record 20+ rebounds and 13+ assists in the same contest. Luke Maye added 14 points, four rebounds and three assists, and Cameron Reynolds pitched in with 13 points, five rebounds, four assists and two blocks of his own.

The 905 was led by the tandem of Henry Ellenson and Oshae Brissett, who scored 21 points apiece. Brissett had eight rebounds and two blocks, while Ellenson added 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Paul Watson registered 17 points and 10 rebounds, while Tyler Ennis recorded 17 points, seven assists and four steals. In a reserve role, Michael Bethea Jr. notched 14 points on 5-of-8 shooting.

Ellenson nabbed the first points of the game and knocked down a shot from long range, but Wisconsin responded by scoring seven straight points to gain its first lead of the afternoon. After the contest's initial basket, the Herd used a 15-4 run and jumped out to an eight-point lead upon reaching the first media timeout. Seven different Wisconsin players cracked the scoring column, and the team was led by Maye, who paced all Herd players with seven first quarter points. Wisconsin led by as many as nine in the stanza, but with 21 seconds remaining in the period, the 905 recaptured the lead on a pullup jump shot by Nicholas Baer. For the quarter, both teams shot 50% or higher from the field but the Raptors owned a 29-28 lead at the end of the opening 12 minutes.

The 905 collected the first points of the second quarter, but Adams tied the game at 31 after recording his first field goal of the contest. Adams missed all five of his field goal attempts in the first period but shot 6-for-8 and tallied 14 points in the second stanza. The Herd retook the lead moments later and ultimately increased its advantage to seven. Despite creating a bit of separation, the Raptors tied the game at 46 on a Brissett free throw with 4:01 remaining in the half. In similar fashion to the first quarter, the 905 closed the second period by scoring 16 of the final 20 points in the half. With five seconds left to play and time winding down, Watson capped the quarter by nailing a 29-foot three-point heave to beat the halftime buzzer. The score was deadlocked on five occasions in the period, but the Raptors stellar finish of the first half resulted in a 56-50 905 lead at the intermission.

The Raptors added to its lead at the outset of the second half and scored the first four points of the third quarter. The four points increased the 905's lead to 10 and gave the team its first double-digit lead of the game. The Raptors began the period by scoring nine of the first 11 points and upped its advantage to 13. The 905's lead swelled to 18 and ultimately reached 22 with just over three minutes left in the quarter. Facing its largest deficit of the afternoon, Wisconsin took a chunk out the Raptors' lead and rattled off nine consecutive points, which made it an 85-72 game. In the closing seconds of the third quarter, Adams connected on a driving reverse layup, which served as the final points of the period. Wisconsin put together a strong run to end the frame, but the 905 outpaced the Herd by eight and led 88-74 heading into the final 12 minutes.

Hogg tallied the first points of the fourth quarter on a tip-in layup, which pulled Wisconsin to within 12. The Raptors responded in kind and posted five unanswered points to draw its lead back to 17. Wisconsin, however, gave it one final effort and used an extended 16-3 run to trim the 17-point deficit down to four. The run spanned five and a half minutes, and with 5:44 left to play in the game, the Herd pulled to within two possessions. Wisconsin's fourth quarter run never came full circle as the Herd was unable to draw closer. The 905 scored 10 of the next 14 points and pushed its lead back over the double-digit threshold. For the second straight game, Wisconsin shot exactly 42% from the field and this time fell by seven, 110-103.

For the first time this season, the Herd have lost back-to-back games. Even with the two-game skid, Wisconsin still owns a full two-game lead over the Maine Red Claws for the top in the Eastern Conference. The season series between the Herd and 905 is deadlocked at one game apiece, but the Raptors have won seven of the eight all-time meetings between the two clubs.

The Herd will fly back to Oshkosh in advance of a three-game home stand that begins on Tuesday, Feb. 4 versus Long Island. Tip-off against the Nets is set for 7PM CT and the game can be found on MYNEW32 and heard on The Score.
