SANTA CRUZ, CA - The Santa Cruz Warriors (16-13) fell to the Sioux Falls Skyforce (14-16) 114-104 Friday night at Kaiser Permanente Arena. The Warriors wore charitable jerseys with proceeds going to Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz. The Sea Dubs are 1-1 this season when wearing charitable jerseys.
Golden State Warriors assignment player Alen Smailagic got into early foul trouble and finished the game with four points and three rebounds in 20 minutes of play. Two-Way guard Ky Bowman jumped to a quick 11 points and three assists in the first quarter and went on to finish with 25 points, four rebounds, five assists and two blocks.
The Warriors and Skyforce went back-and-forth in the first to end the quarter tied at 26. The Warriors started the second quarter on a 6-0 run before the Skyforce countered with a 13-2 run and outscored the Warriors 32-19 in the period to take a 58-45 lead into halftime.
Ryan Taylor hit three three-pointers and Nick Zeisloft sank two three-pointers in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 83-76 entering the fourth. However, the Sea Dubs would not get any closer, as Sioux Falls jumped out to a 17-point lead at multiple junctures during the game's final period.
Taylor earned his first start of the season, finishing the game with 17 points while connecting on five-of-eight three-point attempts. Juan Toscano-Anderson tallied his 10th double-double of the season, contributing 13 points and 17 rebounds, while Andrew Harrison chipped in with 18 points, seven rebounds and eight assists off the bench.
Mychal Mulder led the Skyforce with 31 points, while former Cal big man Marcus Lee posted a double-double with 22 points and 16 rebounds.
The Warriors continue their six-game homestand against the Memphis Hustle (23-7) on Saturday, February 1 at 7:00 p.m. PST. Fans can view Saturday's game on NBC Sports Bay Area Plus or stream on the NBC Sports MyTeams App. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a Golden State All-Star nesting doll in honor of voting for your favorite Warriors.
