Unlucky Last Second Sequence Concedes Knicks' Comeback
February 1, 2020 - NBA G League (G League)
Westchester Knicks News Release
WHITE PLAINS, NY - The Westchester Knicks, the official NBA G League affiliate of the New York Knicks, nearly completed a comeback after falling behind 19 points but an unlucky layup conceded the Knicks' effort and the Long Island Nets would escape with the 116-111 win Saturday evening at Westchester County Center.
New York Knicks assignee, Ignas Brazdeikis, came close to notching a triple-double and finished with a team-high 31 points, 14 rebounds and eight assists. He also drilled a trio of triples. Both Ivan Rabb and JJ Moore scored 23 points. Rabb's came in double-double fashion including a game-high 15 rebounds. Moore's came in a reserve role.
For the Nets (12-18), Dzanan Musa poured in a game-best 34 points which also covered a game-high four three-pointers while he also hauled nine board. Theo Pinson gave a 25-point effort.
The Knicks (15-16) suffered their largest deficit all game, behind 19 points at the 6:26 mark of the third quarter, 90-71. Westchester responded with an 18-8 run that brought the hosts within nine by the conclusion of the period.
That momentum carried Knicks well into the fourth and the Nets saw its command vanish as both teams mirrored 100 points with 6:12 to go in the game. Two more knotted scores followed, the last one at 2:10. From there, Long Island edged in front going up four with 8.8 ticks on the clock.
Three Brazdeikis free-throws cut the Nets lead to just one but split showing from Chris Chiozza at the stripe put the Nets back up two. A golden opportunity presented itself as an inbounds play saw Brazdeikis feed a cutting Tim Bond backdoor who was wide open but a layup too strong at the rim yielded the Nets victory.
The Iowa Wolves are next on the Knicks' slate and will face off Tuesday, February 4 at 11:30 AM ET.
